As an Open and Affirming congregation, we are intentional about welcoming members of the GLBTQ community and working to promote a safer world for all people. This month we are recommitting ourselves to support members of our transgender community. In 2017 at least 23 transgender individuals have died due to violence in the U.S. and we need to show that this is not okay. On November 20 we recognize the international Transgender Day of Remembrance and encourage everyone to join in the Duluth vigils – 4pm at corner of Superior St. and Lake Ave., and 7-9 at UMD’s Kirby Terrace. A letter expressing our concerns and support for transgender individuals will be published in the editorial section of the Duluth News Tribune and can be found here. Together we can show that all people are deserving of compassion, dignity, and respect.
