“Yes, Harry, there is a Hogwarts”
Pilgrim Congregational Church UCC is pleased to announce its sixth annual Hogwarts Party on Sunday, October 25, 5:30-8:00 p.m. This big, old building of stone and dark wood is wonderfully suited for a Harry Potter-themed event for all the children of the community!
Of course, the whole event is also a great metaphor for how we face our changing world. Big old buildings are both classy and outdated, both hard to heat and easy to love, both awkward for contemporary purposes but bursting with beauty and history to inspire. What we see depends upon how we view it. Our Harry Potter enthusiasts looked at their half-empty building with dark corners and cavernous spaces and said, “Perfect! Imagine a little bit of Hogwarts right here!” And with their enthusiasm, networking, creativity, and enormous commitment of time and effort, they create an imaginative party to delight hundreds of children. No cost, no admission, just open doors to all who love the magic of possibilities and of a young boy who struggled, and grew, and deepened in courage, loyalty, and love.
To enter into the world as God sees it, we have to take on childlike qualities. Hope. Trust. Play. Joy. Creativity. Whether you become part of Hogwarts as a volunteer (check out how here: Hogwarts 2015), or accompanying a child through the wonder of games, activities, and magical treats, do become a part of Hogwarts. It’s good for your soul.
