Pilgrim Congregational Church
We are Pilgrims on a journey together
children and youth

We seek to be an intergenerational community where children, youth and adults worship, learn, work and serve together. We offer child care for many events so that parents can participate and our youngest children can get to know other members of the congregation.

Infants and children under age 4
A child care area staffed by an attendant and volunteers from the congregation is available for infants and children up to four years old each Sunday morning during worship and adult education events. In addition, a Children’s Space is available on the first floor near the sanctuary for parents who would like to be with their children.

Children ages 4 through 4th grade
Pilgrim offers Church School each Sunday. Children are invited to join the congregation for a brief intergenerational worship portion at the beginning of the 10:00 a.m. service. After Time With Children, children ages 4 through 4th grade are excused to attend Pilgrim’s Church School or to participate in specially planned children’s activities. Pilgrim uses Seasons of the Spirit curriculum, which is based on the Revised Common Lectionary and is coordinated with worship themes. We often use a “one-room schoolhouse” model for our Church School, which allows children to work together and help each other as they learn through service projects, arts and crafts, drama, and music.

Children 5th through 8th grades
After Time With Children in worship, our older group of children meet with a team of adult volunteers to participate in service projects and learning activities focused on social justice issues such as poverty, hunger, homelessness and the environment.

Confirmation
Pilgrim offers Confirmation instruction taught by the Rev. Charlotte Frantz every other year. Confirmation instruction includes pairing each youth with an adult mentor from our congregation to examine the meaning of Christian faith and church membership.

Our Whole Lives
Our Whole Lives, a human sexuality values-based curriculum, is offered for middle-school youth in conjunction with the Unitarian Church of Duluth.

Youth
Pilgrim offers periodic mission projects and service trips. Recent activities have included a 2007 trip to Biloxi, Mississippi for hurricane recovery work; a Mission Duluth experience with CHUM in 2006, a trip to Heifer Project’s Overlook Farm in Massachusetts in 2004; and trip to Jamaica in 2001. Youth are also welcome to participate in the delegations to Chiapas, Mexico.

Congdon Creek Preschool
Congdon Creek Preschool is a private preschool housed in our building. For more information, call 724-5257.
