eNews for Thursday, December 30
My Bailiwick
Dear Pilgrims,
I love this week between Christmas and New Year’s Day—it’s usually quiet and restful. The tree still looks beautiful. There are a few leftover cookies to eat. This year the news has brought the omicron variant into the spotlight. Several of my extended family members have tested positive—nieces and nephews—and friends and family are changing their travel plans. Here at Pilgrim our plan is to continue to worship at 10:00 am on Sunday mornings and to livestream (and record for later viewing) our services. We will leave the decision whether to be with us in person up to you; though, if you are coming to worship, we will expect you to be vaccinated, if eligible, and wearing masks. We won’t be serving coffee and food for the foreseeable future until the transmission numbers settle down. It’s all so disappointing, and emotionally exhausting, but it doesn’t need to be tragic. This too will pass, and caution against passing this virus to another person is the very definition of compassion.
In the meantime, may your New Year’s celebrations bring you joy, peace, and hope! And if it is possible, I hope to see you on Sunday, January 2nd.
Lovingly,
Carla
Pilgrim Book Club
Monday, January 10 | 4:00 pm
This month Pilgrim Women's Book Club will be discussing The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes. This book, set during the depression years, is based on a true story. It is about women in a rural town in Kentucky who defy the conventional role of women of the time and ride horseback to bring books to communities which have no access to libraries. This was a part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s project for traveling libraries in rural America.
Join us. Whether you are young or old, a member of Pilgrim or not, have read the book or not, you are welcome to join us.

Show Us Your Walks
Chester Creek on a December afternoon
We're lucky to live in a community with so much beauty and access to nature. Send Patrick your photos to share your walks with us in future emails! It's another way to stay connected in these troubled times.
What Patrick's Listening To
Here's some seventeenth-century goodness: a duet from Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea. Whether Monteverdi actually wrote it is a matter of debate, apparently, but it's a lovely piece of music nonetheless. Attentive readers may recognize Lea Desandre, who has been featured in this space before!
