My Bailiwick

Dear Pilgrims,

Today has been an absolutely perfect fall day—sunny, cool, dry, with just a few signs of color to come. I took a walk over the noon hour along the lake listening to a great podcast about changing one’s mind (not that I need to change MY mind, you understand). We’re getting the church newsletter ready to send and running off the Sunday bulletin. Later today I’ll get the next Covid booster and my flu shot, and since I’m certain to feel crummy tomorrow as a result, I have my afghan and the next book in a series I’m reading about a lawyer with PTSD waiting for me on our living room couch. In other words, I’m a happy camper.

It's a relief to recognize happiness, since I am prone to feeling deep despair over the world’s many sorrows and struggles. I realized yesterday afternoon as I was playing handbells with fellow Pilgrims, connecting with church friends in a variety of ways doing a variety of things is an efficacious antidote to hopelessness. It doesn’t make the world’s problems less severe, but it makes me able to face them with a full heart. I wish that for you, my Pilgrim friends, so I recommend a walk along our gorgeous lake and a commitment to do something with your fellow Pilgrims.

I hope I see you Sunday.

Love,
Carla

Show Us Your Walks

From the Setterlunds, some views near Hawk Ridge

We're lucky to live in a community with so much beauty and access to nature. Send Patrick your photos to share your walks with us in future emails!

What Patrick's Listening To

Here's Carol Channing with a truly bizarre rendition of "That's How Young I Feel" from Mame. It's been living rent-free in my brain all week, now it can live in yours too. (Shout out to a young Tommy Tune—did he choreograph?)
