L’Shana Tovah

By Maren C. Tirabassi

As we approach Rosh Hashanah,
I reach my greetings deeply felt
for those who in faith name this evening
the beginning of a new year.

May this be your good year,
and may you recognize
the sweet blessings when they come
and not only in looking back.

May this be good year for our fragile world,
for all who are most vulnerable
in this time of illness,
of political conflict,
of fire and flood and storm,
of the collapse of buildings,
of earthquakes and evacuations.

May the most intimate heart-holding
of your family and friends,
be tenderly held in the circle
of a great repairing of the earth.

Lessons for Pilgrim Families

Since we are not having Sunday school for our youngest Pilgrims right now, there is a packet of lessons available for September 12, 19, and26. We would love your feedback about this idea as well as photos of your family as they participate. We will show the photos during the next youth Sunday, which will be planned soon. Send your photos to cindy@grindy.net or text them to Cindy at (218) 349‑9611

Are you seeking inspiration and creative renewal? Writer and composer Amanda Udis-Kessler's virtual workshop “Grit and Grace: Creativity, Spirituality, and Justice Work” is an ideal opportunity for clergy, lay leaders, and all people of faith.

Workshop time will include conversations, individual exercises, pair and small-group discussions, and creative opportunities supported with spiritual grounding practices. During the workshop as well as the two weeks before and after, participants will build supportive community through conversations about creativity.

Show Us Your Walks

We're lucky to live in a community with so much beauty and access to nature. Send Patrick your photos to share your walks with us in future emails! It's another way to stay connected in these troubled times.

What Patrick's Listening To

I've been in a Mozart mood lately. Here's a lovely performance of the Requiem by the WDR Symphony Orchestra (a German radio orchestra). Some fun touches in this performance: this is Harvard scholar Robert Levin's completion of the Requiem, which replaces some of Süssmayr's clunkier additions. The "Amen" fugue after the "Lacrymosa" is a treat!
