My Bailiwick

It’s a dark, cold, wet day—November through and through. But today several of you have popped in to help prepare for this coming weekend. Patrick is up to his eyeballs in bulletins, the red paraments are out, many emails sent with reminders of one thing and another. I’ve been installed in a number of ministry positions over the years, but this one feels especially meaningful. I told Pilgrim Moderator Julie Johnson today that this is my last installation. Maybe that’s why it feels so significant. Or maybe it’s because I already love you. Whatever the reason, I expect to be shedding some tears on Sunday.

It’s a lot of church in one day. Of course I hope you come to both services, but if you have to choose between them, come in the afternoon—3:00 pm—with a reception hosted by the pastoral search committee, their last “official” duty. It is an honor to be your pastor and teacher, one I take to heart, so let’s celebrate all this means for our life together.

CHUM’s Executive Director, John Cole, will present Stepping on Up: A Call to CHUM at our November Assembly. It can only become that if we have transitional housing with support services, and permanently affordable housing units available for all. Together, we can make it happen. Join us!

The November Assembly will take place on Zoom. RSVP today to Rev. Patricia Benson to receive the link. We look forward to seeing you virtually

We're lucky to live in a community with so much beauty and access to nature. Send Patrick your photos to share your walks with us in future emails! It's another way to stay connected in these troubled times.

What Patrick's Listening To

In honor of the national tour coming through Minneapolis this week, here's "People Will Say We're in Love" sung by Rebecca Naomi Jones and Damon Duanno from the 2019 Broadway cast album. Daniel Kluger's new orchestrations are so creative and fresh!
