eNews for Thursday, June 2
My Bailiwick
Dear Pilgrims,
June is Pride month! We honor and support individual identities and love which, as you know, is love is love is love… Duluth celebrates Pride over Labor Day weekend, but you may be seeing lots of rainbow things around now in June—socks, flags, t-shirts, buttons—we’ll bring them all out again in September to show our Pride and affirmation for ALL LGBTQ+ persons everywhere!
Tomorrow, Friday June 3rd is Wear Orange Day for gun violence prevention. You are invited to join others (including me) at 8:30 am at the corner of Highway 53 and Lavaque Road, the site near Rep. Pete Stauber's office. Wear orange if you have it. If not, wear an orange ribbon. I’ll be handing those out to folks. We will stand on the public grassy side of the Highway and Lavaque Road. (No standing on private property.) Be polite. Be respectful. Be positive. Be noisy. You can make a sign to hold! This action will last for one hour, 8:30-9:30 am. Parking is very limited, so carpool or get dropped off by an early-riser. I’ll see you there!
OR
I’ll see you on Saturday, June 4, when we can join with the Moms Demand Action chapter and meet at the Leif Erikson park stage for a virtual walk. Meet at 10:00 am at the stage and walk as far as you want. There will be more information at that location.
There is strength and hope in numbers, so please join me tomorrow and/or Saturday. Here is some recent polling data about Minnesotans' support for stronger gun laws, including from gun owners.

Second Hour: How Does a Piano Work?
Have you ever wondered exactly how a piano works? You're not alone. Join us in the sanctuary after worship to learn about a grand piano's 12,000 parts and how they all work together! We'll also discuss the condition of our century-old piano and what steps could be taken to make it look and sound the best it can.
Rhubarb Festival
CHUM's annual Rhubarb Festival is right around the corner and we can't do it without you! We are looking for more volunteers to help us set up, sell merchandise, run kids' activities, and help with our food booths. It's a lot of fun at the beautiful Stella Maris Holy Rosary Campus!

Youth Group News
Many thanks to Linda Peplinski for donating her ping pong table to the youth room. A big thanks to Pete Willemsen and Steve Grindy for moving it into the youth room.
The youth group has been busy painting the youth room at Pilgrim, learning about food insecurity in Duluth, and planning their mission trip June 13-16. We will be gardening on Wednesday, June 1, and hoping to grow fresh produce that will feed people with food insecurity in Duluth. Contact Cindy Grindy for more information.
We will be participating in a mission trip June 13-16. June 13 and 14 and the morning of the June 15, we will be in Duluth. In the afternoon of June 15, we will head to the Twin Cities to participate in Feed My Starving Children and then we will camp out at Lake Elmo Park Reserve for Wednesday night. All youth who are starting grade six in the fall and above are welcome to join us. Younger youth who bring a parent are also welcome. We will be home by lunch time on Thursday, June 16. Lighthouse Center for Vital Living
The Lighthouse Center for Vital Living (formerly the Lighthouse Center for Vision Loss) seeks additional board members who can dedicate their time and talent to helping this exciting organization grow.
The Lighthouse helps children, teens, and adults challenged by disabilities, vision loss, and aging live confident, independent, and vibrant lives. In addition to our coaching, training, and occupational therapy we are leading this area in offering technology support to help people challenged by vision loss, aging, or disability harness the power of technology to live safer, more connected lives.
Depending on their skills, time, and our needs, board members help with fundraising, explore and chart strategic directions, and help with community connections. Current board members come from the fields of education, finance, marketing, healthcare, and more. We meet every other month with committee meetings in between. Meetings are often by Zoom.
If you are interested in learning more about the Lighthouse Center for Vital Living please call Board Chair Michelle Juntunen at (218) 390-7323 or Executive Director Mary Junnila at (218) 624-4828. Or visit lcfvl.org.
