My Bailiwick

Dear Pilgrims,

So much snow! So much slush! So much waiting for Spring!

Thank you to Andrew Stretiz, Brian Medred, and Harlan Stech for painting the room that was the library and is now the Faith Formation office! M Hakes, our new Director of Faith Formation, will officially start on March 19, but we wanted to get their office ready and, I must say, it’s beautiful! And, we are in the process of a major sorting of all our church’s books, with a goal of sending most of them to new homes. Beginning this Sunday, we’ll be putting books out in Salter Hall for the taking. This show-and-take process will go on for several weeks, until, eventually, we’ll take the remaining books to the Duluth Public Library for the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale. You need more books, don’t you?!?

Also on Sunday, our youth group will have freshly-baked scones for sale (free-will offering) after worship. The youth will have been “locked-in” over-night Saturday so, why not bake? They are raising money for their youth room, so please, be prepared to be generous.

As many of you know, our friend Kitty Van Evera recently fell, breaking her shoulder and spraining her wrist. She is managing at home, but she could use our help. Might you be able to prepare a meal for her? If so, please contact me for details. And an occasional ride to one thing or another? Again, please let me know. Kitty is making good progress in her recovery, but we can make this go easier for her.

I am so grateful for all the volunteering so many of you do here at Pilgrim. From ushering to singing, playing handbells to spending the night sleeping on the floor, painting, cooking, providing hospitality for a grieving family after a memorial service. It’s an honor to serve you.

Love to you all,
Carla

Puzzle Exchange Wrap-Up

February was Puzzle Exchange month at Pilgrim Church. Members and guests of all ages brought and borrowed a variety of puzzles left on the tables in Salter Hall. The last day for the exchange was February 28. On that day, Jackie Falk brought the 33 remaining puzzles to the county jail to be enjoyed. Looking over all the fun in Salter Hall, our own Dr. Salter was heard to say, "I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in one day… and the box said 2 to 4 years!"

From Clyde Johnson, a very icy Lakewalk

We're lucky to live in a community with so much beauty and access to nature. Send Patrick your photos to share your walks with us in future emails!

What Patrick's Listening To

Fifty years ago this past Saturday, my favorite musical opened in New York. Here's a recording of that first audience hearing "Send in the Clowns" for the first time.
