My Bailiwick

Dear Pilgrims,

As this sacred weekend begins, I encourage you to take some time over the next several days for quiet meditation and prayer. You might reread the story—this year we are using Matthew’s version, chapters 26 and 27—or you may take a walk without listening to anything but the outdoors. Or perhaps you just need to sit in a comfortable spot and ponder. In a world filled with sound and fury, find some time to be silent.

Join us this evening at 5:30 for a simple soup and bread supper in Salter Hall followed by communion at our tables. Tomorrow, Good Friday, several churches are worshipping together at Glen Avon Presbyterian Church at 7:00 pm. Please come if you can.

After a quiet Saturday, we’ll celebrate and rejoice together on Sunday morning! There’ll be coffee and treats before and after worship and our service will be filled with brass music and spring flowers.

This Sunday, I’m looking forward to hearing the second presentation in our church’s pledge campaign, “Because of You, Our Church Changes Lives”, from Diane Desotelle, who will speak about Pilgrim’s strong and effective witness for justice for all people. Because of your generous financial support, we are able to do so much to inspire a just world for all. Below are a couple of photos we’ll see, showing Pilgrims advocating for the well-being and dignity of all people.

May we remember and honor Jesus’ Jerusalem journey, this weekend especially, but every day we are privileged to be his disciples.

Love to you all,
Carla

Women's Fellowship Group

At the next Women's Fellowship meeting on Tuesday, April 11, at 1:30 pm in the Parlor, Carolyn Sundquist will present a program on the pending redevelopment of the historic Duluth Armory and the Armory's storied history and importance to Duluth.

Prayers and Condolences

Longtime Pilgrim member Audrey Monicken passed away in February. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 22, at Benedictine Living Community Chapel.

Covid Policy Update

The Church Council discusses Covid and Pilgrim's Covid policies at each monthly meeting. This week, the Council has made a change to our mask policy. Moving forward, whether to wear a mask during Sunday worship will be a matter of individual choice. We will continue to provide disposable masks for anyone who would like them.

March is MN Foodshare Month

The 42nd annual Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign is a statewide effort to restock food shelves. In Duluth our community's demand on food shelves has only been growing. Chum distributes boxes of healthy food at two locations. They are hoping to raise $100,000 and 50,000 pounds of food from February 28 through Easter, April 9! Please consider helping them meet their financial goal with a donation at givemn.org. Food donations can be brought to 120 North First Avenue West, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Come down the alley and ring the bell, and they will be happy to take any and all donations!
