eNews for Thursday, May 18
My Bailiwick
Dear Pilgrims,
I was feeling a little blue yesterday, but then I attended our Youth Group’s regular Wednesday evening gathering. They were, as always, energetic, inquisitive, and connected with one another. I tell you this so that you will make next Wednesday, May 24, a priority! There will be a pop-up short concert on our front lawn at 5:40, provided by the Minn. Bach Society. Then, pot-luck supper at 6:00—bring some food to share, please—then games with our youth, including Bingo. This is an invitation FROM THEM! And the very fact they’ve invited us is exactly why and how they lifted my spirits yesterday. Here’s what you should do: plan to come to the church on Wednesday, bring some food to share, and look around your home and bring a “white elephant” gift for a Bingo prize.
But before Wednesday’s Game Night, we will have a special worship service of music this Sunday. We are so fortunate to have our gifted musicians Patrick Colvin and Jessica Schroeder leading the high-quality music opportunities at Pilgrim. This will be an especially beautiful service, so please plan to be with us.
I don’t have many blue days, now that I’m serving as your pastor. When they come around, spending a little time with Pilgrim’s youth is the best antidote I could possibly imagine. You’ll see what I mean when you come to next week’s Game Night.
Love to you all,
Carla
Chum 50th Anniversary
On Sunday, June 4, Chum will host an interfaith Service of Thanksgiving to kick off its 50th anniversary of service to the Northland. This Thanksgiving Service will serve as a powerful symbol of unity, compassion, and faith as we stand beside those in need. The service, which takes place at First United Methodist Church, 230 E Skyline Pkwy at 3:00 pm, will feature representatives from various faith traditions who will lead us in prayers, readings, and reflections centered around gratitude, compassion, and the importance of community support.
Music at Pilgrim
Sunday, May 21, 10:00 am: Join Pilgrim Choir and friends at worship for our spring cantata. We will present J.S. Bach's "Wer da gläubet und getauft wird", a cantata for Ascension. Tasha Kapp will also share a hymn by Vivaldi, accompanied by the Highland Quartet.
Wednesday, May 24, 5:40 pm: The Bach Society of Minnesota is giving a series of "mobile mini" concerts in Duluth, and Pilgrim is one of their stops! They'll play for just 20 minutes on our front lawn before heading to their next location. Come check it out!
All Church Bingo and Game Night
Pilgrims of all ages are invited to join the Pilgrim Youth Group on Wednesday, May 24, at 6:00 pm in Salter Hall for a Bingo and Game Night. We’ll start with a rousing game of bingo and then split off to play other games. This will be a great opportunity to learn or share how to play a game like poker, cribbage, Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, etc. We hope to see you there!

What Patrick's Listening To
Friends, alas, this will be my last installment of this series. It's been a lot of fun, and I always enjoyed hearing from you what you thought of a given week's selection. I've compiled a playlist of some of my favorites from the past three (!) years.
Also here are some clips of Marin Mazzie singing in Man of La Mancha, as a treat.
